A lot of consumers are generally not aware that some free email providers search within their personal free web emails to help advert placement.
Around two-thirds or 65% of web users do not realize that a number of free email providers scan emails for search phrases in a bid to position more user-targeted ads.
A study about the Attitudes to Email implemented by email provider known GMX noticed that not only were the majority of internet users unconscious that the process took place but that one in four reported it would likely have an impact on their next decision of free email provider.
Only 9 % were aware about advertisement-scanning and had thought about this picking a free email provider.
Once aware about the situation, more than fifty percent of British consumers (56 %) presume that visitors must be able to opt out of such checking and 16 % were in fact troubled at the situation.
All free email providers immediately scan incoming email traffic to be able to distinguish hazards to the user such as unsolicited web mails and viruses. However, a limited number employ these scans for ad placements too.
British web users should keep in mind there is a number of free email providers around that do not do this. If they’re uneasy with the procedure either for their privacy or their relative’s free web mail, they need to change the provider.
