It could be a common process among the free email providers to scan free web mails as well as make use of these details to target advertising and marketing to their clients.
But in a newly released study, it would seem that about 40 % of free web email users were unaware that their free email providers are scanning every single word of their email messages.
In that survey, about one third of free web mail users presumed that they should have been able to keep their emails from being scanned for advertising and marketing purposes.
However if this was part of the registration process, then chances are that the email provider, without having specific marketing, wouldn’t be free of charge at all.
Even though it has to be reported that 2 % of people who responded to the survey agreed that the targeted advertising has been in their utmost interest.
This evidently shows that in cases like this, over a third of people interviewed was not aware of this and as a result can be a clear indication for openness regarding this kind of advertising when users register for a free web email account.
